St. James AME Zion Church

Believed to be a stop on the Underground Railroad, the St. James AME Zion Church located in Ithaca’s Southside neighborhood had hosted the likes of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass. Under the guidance of Rev. Terrence King, St. James continues to be active in the struggle for freedom and progress in the United States. His sermons bring together a diverse group of worshippers dedicated to the Church’s mission.

The Cast Iron Cowboys

Based in Ithaca, NY, The Cast Iron Cowboys are a country western band who have grown a steady following since their founding in 2022. In February 2023, their month-long residency at the Downstairs, a small venue for local artists, provided them with a space to build a local following. Over the past few years, they have grown, added members to their ensemble, and began to flesh out their distinct sound.

The Apiary Open House

Ithaca College’s Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences offers students a unique experience: to learn the importance of honey bees in a hands-on environment. Professor Jason Hamilton teaches “The Nature and Necessity of Bees,” a class where students immerse themselves in the world of those fuzzy, pollinating insects by becoming beekeepers. At the on-campus apiary, Hamilton demonstrates how to care for hives, and why honey bees are such an important member of the ecosystem.
